Santa Maria

If you’re a bug person—all right, an entomologist—the Amazon rainforest is heaven on Earth. Nobody knows the numbers for sure, but scientists estimate that the region has about 2.5 million species of insects. Some 7,000 of those are different species of butterflies.

The indigenous people of the Amazon know something about beauty. It’s all around them. Take butterflies, for example. Of the 20,000 known species around the world, more than a third are found in the rainforest.

In our search for the extremely exotic hardwood called Santa Maria, we saw hundreds of butterflies in the Amazonas forests around Manaus. These large insects come in virtually every imaginable color. We even saw some that were exactly the same deep red color you see in finished Santa Maria.

Of course, it’s a little crazy to compare the beautiful color of a butterfly with the beautiful color of a floor. But hey, we’re hardwood guys. And we think Santa Maria makes one of the finest looking floors you’ll ever walk on.

Yes, butterflies are gorgeous. But boy, you ought to see our floors.
